My friends know I have transitioned from my “It’s too early to think about Christmas” Grinch-esque mood to acceptance mode. Let’s face it: the holidays are bearing down on us.

Should you find yourself in a gift-shopping mood today, I invite you to come shop the Lucky Ginger Studio selection of framed art, 2010 desk calendars, note cards and bag tags:

Author Amy Tan explores the evolutions of her creative process:
http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/amy_tan_on_creativity.html
She attributes her productivity and success to a heady mix of
- Awareness (noticing hints from the Universe)
- Luck
- Clues from “ghosts” of ancestors
- Random chance
- Serendipity
- God’s will
- Accidents – happy and otherwise
- Coincidence
- Synchronicity
- Muses
It’s an engaging explanation; definitely worth a look.

I agree with most of her laundry list:
You have to be aware.
In my creative world, clues from the past inspire me (e.g., as I transcribe a distant aunt’s honeymoon travel journal from 1902…it’s almost as if she’s my muse, hoping her story will get told so she can live on).
The Big Guy Upstairs definitely helps me on a regular basis. I think we’re here to make things (I guess He asked the original “How do I create something out of nothing?”).
“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.”
- George Bernard Shaw

Admission: this was floating around on Facebook earlier this spring, and I rolled this out to my FB crew (and: I finally made good on my promise!)
But……….I love the concept of actual stuff made by real people, so here it is, unleashed into the Blogosphere.
*****************
The first five people in the continental US to respond to this post will get something made by me.
In return, all you need to do is post this text into a note on your blog and make 5 things for 5 other people.
This offer does have some restrictions so please read carefully:
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make.
- What I create will be just for YOU.
- It will be done this year (2009).
- It will be something made in the real world and not something over the Internet.
- It might be a mix CD, homemade ravioli, an original photograph, poem, baked goods, or a photograph of a poem about baked goods and ravioli…who knows!
Void where prohibited, use only as directed, for a limited time only, store in a cool dry place.
Let’s keep it going!
….it was time to stir the chi pot.
There’s a Chinese saying: “If you want a change in your life, move 27 things in your house.”
I felt stagnant on multiple fronts….kind of like the Allies during portions of WWII. So I went nuclear on cleaning the office today.
I’m certain more than 27 things got moved, tossed, recycled – and without sounding entirely new-agey/tree-hugging/ granola-eating/toe-sock-wearing….the energy in this room feels MUCH better.
