Well – the show is ON. We’re two hours into Day One (of three). Crowds are good (aisles full, “buzz” in the air). Peoples’ bags actually have MERCHANDISE in them (low “flat bagger” ratio versus the 2008 Bizarre Bazaar in Richmond).
Perhaps this is a sign of good things to come?
A few observations:
1. Cash is king. Have only had a couple credit card transactions so far today. People are doling out the greenbacks.
2. People are spending carefully. Most people have said they are shopping for others, and few are throwing in a little something for themselves. They are working their plan!
3. The mood is upbeat. Haven’t heard one person grumble about the economy (again: blessed relief, compared with shows two seasons ago).
4. Price points are low. $10 and under seems to be the “sweet spot”.
Fingers are crossed for a successful show!
