Just back from Costa Rica, which I call the “Ireland of Central America” because it’s so green and lush, and the people are so darn nice.
We flew into Liberia (love the brand new airport…beautiful stonework and waterfalls!?! Is it a spa?!), and within twenty minutes, we enjoyed commanding views of volcanoes and the Pacific Ocean. We were on Culebra Bay in Guanacaste, an agricultural area about an hour south of the Nicaraguan border.
If you go: the west coast is the “sunny” side of the country. Best time of year to go is from November to May during their dry season. Highly recommend ziplining. Palo Verde National Park is stunning (cruise the river to see howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys and crocodiles, along with many species of birds). You will enjoy a lot of fresh seafood – but these people are also master grillers. The local beef is incredible.
